Young and right wing? Be fucking proud.

stateless-crusader:

I am 20 years old, 21 on the 19th, and I am explicitly right wing. I am culturally conservative and I favor unfettered free markets. While I am an anti-statist, I have a fondness for monarchy versus Republicanism. At the very least, I favor 18th century Constitutional republicanism over this liberal Hell we are currently living in.

This brings me to an issue that pisses me off very much: young people aren’t supposed to be right wing. The default is assumed to be leftist. It is merely assumed that you favor secularism, “diversity”, you hate your parents, you like drugs, you favor foreign intervention (as in “peacekeeping”), open borders, universal healthcare, etc. If you are a young person, but right wing, then you must be a fundamentalist loon who was indoctrinated by your parents.

I remember a High School biology class when we went over bioethics. We were going to debate some issues, and one possible one was abortion. The teacher asked almost sarcastically if there were any people who could even oppose abortion, and I said I did. The other students looked at me almost shocked. They knew I was an atheist, so the possibility I was an indoctrinated Christian was not possible. They simply wrote me off. Similar experiences occurred in college, but the overwhelming leftist atmosphere on college campuses is well known.

This makes me think of when I was over at my brothers place. I was talking to his wife and I had mentioned my interests in politics and economics. She asked what my “position” was. I answered “libertarian”, given that’s the easiest answer to give. I asked what she was, and very softly, almost scared, she said “conservative.” You see, she was in nursing school and conservatives aren’t exactly…welcome.

Our public education, more than anything else, is a huge reason for this problem. There’s also the problem that young people are naturally more open to crazy ideas, given the lack of knowledge and experience at early years, the Amish call adolescence rumspringa, “running around.” It’s expected that some young people would go leftist, but our current youth culture is the epitome of pure insanity.

I agree wholeheartedly.

i love those concerts where you just feel stunned at the end, like you’ve seen something incredible by a band that’s going to be legendary, and where you know that in twenty years you’ll still be bragging that you got to see that band live.

Anonymously try to seduce me.

Bonus points if you do it as a fictional character of your choice. Seriously, those ones are fun.

Bonus bonus bonus points if you pretend to be a band member.
